Eastern Europe |
With the collapse of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe at the start of the 1990's, there was an enormous demand for spiritual and moral support throughout the countries of the former Eastern bloc. All the Christian churches sensed the immense need to satisfy this longing on the part of their people. After decades of repression and persecution, however, they were unable to meet this need from their own resources. And so "Aid to the Church in Need" has come to the aid of the Catholic Church, both Eastern and Western, and also of the Russian Orthodox Church, with financial and material support. |
